Adopte a Blog Outline

Today I did my presentation on Adopt a Blog. I did my presentation on OWL blog which stands for Oklahoma Weather Lab. Below is the outline of what I talked about.

Outline of Presentation

1. History of the blog? and How has their blog changed from when it started?
·         Started out on website http://owl.ou.edu and there would be a picture presenting the information in visual form.
·         Late 2012 post became more than a paragraph long and sometimes there would be special-interest stories.
·         OWL website didn’t have viewer traffic and it wasn’t easy to create or edit posts.
·         Lack of ability for people to comment on posts and little ease when posting to social media
·         Summer 2013 the blog moved to Blogger to increase viewer traffic and make the blog feel more like a “blog.”
·         All the blog post prior to summer 2013 are on blogger and blogs before 2013 are on the web site http://owl.ou.edu/archive/

2. How long blogging?
·         The first post was on May 7, 2007.

3. Who is the blogger? (Age, profession, etc)
·         College student’s freshman through seniors (eighteen to twenty-two), and a few transfer students in their late-20s. 

4. Why do they blog? and Purpose of blog?
·         To inform the public about past, present, or upcoming weather events. Some event can be major.
·         Example when the May 19, 20 and 21 tornado occurred there was great detail on those posts.
·         Other times there may be a blog post to give the forecast for the upcoming week or holiday.

6. How often blog?
·         There are some gaps but the goal is to blog at least twice a week (in media shifts). 

7. Geographic location?
·         Blogs are written from the National Weather Center in Norman, OK and cover the entire state of Oklahoma 

8. Number of followers?
·         Zero 

9. Monthly traffic?
·         According to blogger in August 1,012 

11. Does it make money?
·         No 

12. What makes this blog unique?
·         Unique organization student-run and student-led forecasting group on campus which give the forecast.
 
13. What are its strengths?
·         In addition to blog posts visitors can connect with OWL blog through social media.
·         The posts may easily be shared through social media
·         On OWL home website there is an RSS feed to the latest published blog post.  

14. What are its weaknesses?
·         Sometimes formatting of pictures is a problem on different browsers and platforms.
·         Additionally, we do not yet have the amount of viewers that we would like to have. 

15. What is the advice of the blogger to you and other bloggers?
·         Blogs should be insightful and more than just a couple of sentences. Additionally, thought this should be common sense, blogs should be written I clean English, free of grammatical and spelling errors.
